This is an original Edo-period ōban woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798–1861) from his Abridged Stories of Our Country's Swordsmanship series. It dramatically depicts the swordsman Yoshioka Kanefusa raising his sword in a street fight. The scene is characterized by the artist's signature intense action and the chaotic detail of a flying rooster.
