This is an original Edo-period warrior/historical print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798–1861) from his rare Selected Twenty-Four Paragons of Filial Piety series. The print compares a large, basket-carrying actor in the foreground with an inset scene of the classical filial paragon in the background. It is a bold, mid-19th century masterpiece of mitate (comparison) art.
