Description An elaborately carved and richly gilded Burmese sutra chest raised on an integral stand, mid nineteenth century. Pierced foliate scrollwork, inset colored glass, and guardian lion supports frame the rectangular case. The red lacquered interior once housed sacred Buddhist manuscripts, reflecting devotional artistry and monastic patronage of the period.
